When everyone learned about COVID-19, they thought that the only country that would suffer its wrath is China. People went on with their lives thinking they would be spared.
As weeks went on, the virus made its way to different countries, taking away the lives of hundreds and thousands of people. With the absence of treatment to nip the virus in the bud, world leaders succumbed to putting their countries under lockdown.
Companies set up work-from-home arrangements for their employees, and schools signed their students up for online classes. Plays, concerts, and shows streamed online since their gigs were canceled. People were forced to spend more time indoors, thus paving the way to what many now call “the new normal.”
Empty spaces
At the risk of losing their minds out of boredom, people have been looking for ways to keep themselves entertained. While some have resorted to movie marathons and frequent online calls with their friends, others opted to document their quarantine journey. Among these people is Alice van Kempen.
As a photographer, she took on the challenge of uploading photos that matched the trending topics on her social media accounts. Since the realities of COVID-19 and all-of-a-sudden empty spaces have been flooding the timeline, she decided to do a little experiment. The star, of course, is none other than her bull terrier, Claire.
Points to ponder
She would take photos of Claire and edit it to make it look like she was in an abandoned building. Kempen would then toss in a short caption about the aftermath of quarantine. It wasn’t hard for people to relate to the photos since it’s the reality they’ve been facing every single day since the lockdown started.
Suffice to say, her photos went viral hours after it was published online. It looks like she hit her goal of lifting everyone’s spirits during this difficult time.
