Material possessions will never be worth the life of any animal, especially our beloved dogs. Let’s be honest, we love dogs more than any animal on the blue marble that we are on. But fortunately for other animals, there are people like Ricardo Pimentel, who have dedicated their lives to saving animals.
Ricardo is from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, a region that was recently ravaged by Hurricane Delta. He and his family are well-protected by their huge, strong home, but given that Ricardo is an animal lover, he opened his doors to shelter 300 dogs from the storm!
It’s not just dogs that sought refuge under his roof. There were rabbits, chickens, and even a hedgehog. Ricardo’s family had to cover up most of the pieces of furniture to protect them from dirt and damage. But given how many dogs were there during the storm, furniture damage was just inevitable.
However, this is no big deal for Ricardo. Because his house is actually an animal sanctuary called Tierras de Animales, or Land of Animals, in English. The sanctuary has been around for 10 years, and people in that area of Cancun, Mexico, know all about it. But despite this, Ricardo knew he needed help.
He never had this many animals in his home. So, as the hurricane ravaged their city, he posted about the 300 dogs on Facebook and asked people for donations or supplies to feed the doggos. To his surprise, his posts went viral the next day. People came to the property to help clean the house and repair the damages caused by the storm and the doggos.
Ricardo being true to his mission, wanted to use his newfound fame to encourage people to adopt the dogs that he sheltered during Hurricane Delta. He even suggested that it would come with bragging rights since the dog they will be taking home is somewhat famous on the internet. We hope this works because each one of these 300 dogs truly deserves a forever home.
