Nowadays, sharing news, stories, or events is just one click away. This becomes a significant advantage for every one of us, thanks to technology. We become knowledgeable about our environment from anywhere and at any time of the day. It has its own disadvantages, however, that we often fail to recognize.
A story that has been read or shared by hundreds or even thousands of people may appear telling the truth. But, not all viral stories are a hundred percent true. There are stories behind events and real-time updates that we need to check before we start believing and sharing them with others.
The street dog digging a hole
In January 2019, a photo of a street dog that appears digging a hole in his owner’s grave has been shared thousands of times. The picture went viral because the people believed that the dog is guarding his owner. Well, the story is heart touching that’s why it caught the attention of thousands of people.
Looking back in July 2015, the same photo went viral with over 620,000 shares on Facebook. Both photos went viral for the same claim: that the dog dug a hole in a grave to be near his deceased owner. There is a four-year gap between the photos but they claim the same thing.
Let’s do a fact check
In April 2015, a German rescue animal group posted the same photo that shared the real story behind it. It said that the claim of the two viral photos was a hoax. The truth is that the Siberian street dog dug a hole to have herself a warm place to give birth. The dog in the photo is a female one, to begin with. The animal rescue group uploaded the photo on Facebook under the album titled “Dog Family Under A Grave” in the German language.
